Hey Spin Sisters!
It has come to my attention that there is a bike-advocacy
environmental awareness kind of event happening this Sunday
morning, May 16 2010. It is called Go Green Go Dutch Go Bike.
I thought it would be cool for Spin Sisters to show our support.
Participants will meet at Eau Claire Market between 9 and 9:45am.
Opening remarks at 10, followed by a bike tour along Bow river
pathway west to Crowchild Trail, east along north bank of the
Bow, to Edmonton Trail bridge, and back to Eau Claire. Note the
extreme elevation gain and loss, perhaps a bit like you'd find in
Holland itself!
The ride is being led (or at least, launched) by Princess Margriet
of the Netherlands and will promote the close ties between
Canada, the Netherlands, the sizeable Dutch community in
Canada, and, of course, awareness of the environmental benefits
of bicycling for fun, health and transportation.
The event is FREE, and everyone who registers gets a T-shirt
commemorating the event. Raffle tickets for a Batavus BuB
urban utility bicycle, can be purchased for $5 at the event, with
all proceeds going to charity.
Princess Margriet was actually born in Canada. During the 2nd
World War they specially declared the hospital to be non-Canadian
territory so she could be eligible for the Dutch monarchy. She
seems like a very nice lady, and, she rides a bike!
For anyone interested, please see the information at

Oh yes, the organizers suggest dressing in the "theme" colour,
Orange, if you wish. I was thinking I'll wear my spin sisters jersey
with my orange bike skirt, and maybe orange survey tape
handlebar streamers
