Two Wheel View is seeking 2 Program Facilitators for a 3- 4 month fall contract, under the EcoInternship Program (Government of Canada).
Two Wheel View is a close friend of the Good Life and provides educational bike programs for youth. In Calgary, Two Wheel View delivers quality after-school Earn-A-Bike programs in diverse neighborhoods around the city. Earn-A-Bike is a free, drop-in after school program where students ages 10-17 may learn hands-on bike maintenance and repair, go on rides, and earn a recycled bike of their very own. Our program focuses on empowerment through participatory learning, positive youth development and life-skill building in a safe and supportive environment, and of course, fun.
Two Wheel View also offers high impact international bicycle expeditions for youth.
Internship Title: Two Wheel View Program Facilitator
Type: 3 - 4 months: $14.00 per hour/ 40 hours per week
Tasks Description:
Tasks will be divided into 3 areas: Programming, Administration, either Event Coordination or International Program Coordination
1. Earn-A-Bike after school program duties include:
-facilitating 2-5 programs per week with other program leaders (programs include opening/closing circle, games, workshops, bike rides, snacks, coordination bike pick-ups and distribution)
-program preparation and planning, including valuable games and activities, snacks, and evaluation
-researching and contacting guest speakers
-mentoring youth 9-17
-providing one-offs (single workshops at various events)
2. Administration: duties could include:
-compile and update records for Earn-A Bike Programs (tracking attendance, updating registration, administering evaluation surveys, organizing tracking systems)
-preparing presentation folders
-photocopying and printing materials
3. Fundraising Party/International Expedition Planning
Two Wheel View plans an annual fundraiser party to support international expeditions. One intern will take a primary role in planning this event, procuring donors, space, bands, and shwag, creating and printing materials, recruiting and coordinating volunteers and more.
Our other intern will take a primary role in recruiting for and planning our summer international bike expeditions. This will include booking and giving presentations, following up with students, teachers, parents, and social workers, creating, updating and distributing updating materials and more.
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
-Excellence in maintaining a positive and supportive work environment for the entire Two Wheel View team
-Experience working with diverse youth and adults
-Experience/interest in Experiential Education/youth development
-Exceptional ability to work independently, find what needs to be completed and do it
-Experience/interest in anti-oppression work
-Comfort working in non-traditional work environments
-Desire and ability to learn new skills
-Exceptional communication
They will be organized and be detail-oriented.
Qualifications:
-Successful applicants must be between the ages of 15-30. They must be legally able to work in Canada.
-Post Secondary Education degree in Social Sciences, Education, or equivalent (asset)
-Class 5 drivers license (asset)
-Basic First Aid (required)
-Police Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Security Check (can complete upon hiring)
-Experience with non-profit organizations (asset)
-Event planning experience (asset)
-Second language is an asset (Farsi, Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic etc)
